Originated from the creator god. She is a wife of Izanagi and his sister as well. After marrying with Izanagi, she gave birth to a number of gods. She died while delivering Kagutsuchi, the god of fire. Izanagi, the god of creation, came to the underworld to save her, but ran away after seeing her decaying appearance. Izanami got furious at that and led an army of hell to kill her husband, Izanagi. Wow, this story gives me chills.
